Using a different font for curved street lables

November 12 2009 | 0 comments

Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to use a different font for curved street labels. I do not have any attribute information about whether the label will be set on a curved street or not. I'm using Maplex to optimize the labels to be as easily read as possible.

Mapping Center Answer:

The capability to place one font for curved streets and another font for other streets is not something that you can do unless you have an attribute that differentiates the two.  Each label class has only one text symbol and if curved labeling options are chosen all labels in that label class will get that symbol.

The workaround for this is to identify curved lines and assign them a different attribute before placement. You can then label those features using a seperate label class where the attribute is defined in the SQL query.
