Symbolize points in ArcScene

When trying to symbolize points as Categories-Unique values the points simply dissappear. I am only allowed to change the color and the size of the symbol but not its shape. I have tried to use 3D symbols but it does not work.

Mapping Center Answer:

There's not really enough info here to be sure what the issue is. Important information needed is: number of point features, number of unique symbol categories, and the 3D symbology attempted (e.g,. a sphere, or billboarded PNG image - such as a pushpin, or a SketchUp model of a house, etc).

Possible culprits could be: 1. too many point features, 2. too many unique symbol classifications, or 3. 3D models that are too complex. Our guess would be a combination of 1 and 2.

The simplest workaround to try is to use definition queries and create, say, 10 layers pointing to the one data source, thereby displaying all the features but with smaller unique symbols (and feature counts) per layer…
