Multiple symbols grouped in a line

I have searched the ESRI website and the Mapping Centre website, where a process is described for placing multiple symbols together in a line. I think a script may have been involved. The example used was camping grounds or national parks, or something similar as symbology used were tents, fishing, hiking, toilets, etc.

Would love to find a reference to this article to use the process described.

Mapping Center Answer:

We describe how to do this in two different ways: 1) as a set of formatted text tages, and 2) using cartogrpahic representations. We orginally used the first solution for the Crater Lake Map. Then we switched to the second solution. It is described in this blog entry on Mapping Center:  Creating lists or stacks of marker symbols with cartographic representations.
