Where can I get information from ESRI on how to create an effective poster presentation? I would like tips on how to create a large scale design which is visually pleasing but provides for spaces around the map for text, etc.

Mapping Center Answer:

I understand that you are talking about poster-sized map displays rather than scientific posters.  There are many considerations for designing a good layout and they will all start with the content and the message you are trying to convey.  Unfortunately there is not one solution for all maps.  Part of this lies in the fact that some poster-sized are really focused on a single map (like the Crater Lake map here on Mapping Center) and others tell the story through a set of maps and often other related graphics (like the Hot Spot Analysis map).  Some of the standard cartography textbooks cover the issue of page layout very well, so you might want to check them out.  Many of the most popular cartography books are listed on our Cartographer's Favorites page.
