3D Point Analysis

I am working on a project where I need to conduct 3D analysis on point data. Specifically, I would like to calculate a 3D nearest neighbor statistic for some point data I have on fossils. Do you know of any software that can perform this task? Also, if a program like this doesn't exist, do you know the calculation to get an expected nearest neighbor value in 3D?

Mapping Center Answer:

If you could wait until you get your ArcGIS 10 version, you could use the new Near 3D tool to Determines the distance from each feature in the input features to the nearest features in the near features, within the search radius. You need 3D aAnalyst to use this tool but it works at any license level (ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo). Until then, there is nothing out of the ArcGIS box that does what you are asking.
