I'm working with a hillshade using the default black to white color ramp. I noticed when I change the type under the Stretch dialog, the hillshade can look completely different. Is there a document that explains all the Types, and especially with the standard deviation type, how the hillshade changes when you apply different n values.

Mapping Center Answer:

The section titled "Enhancing the appearance of raster data" in the online help topic Improving the display of raster data contains information about the various stretch types.  It also has other tips and tricks for displaying raster data.
