Dashed line boundaries for polygons

I suspect this might be easy, but I'm stumped. I have a polygon shapefile and I'd like to symbolize the boundaries as dashed lines. When polygons share a boundary, the dashes overlap and look bad. Using an ArcView licence, how can I draw these coincident lines only once? Any advice you can offer would be appreciated!
