Is there a way to combine a leader line with a marker symbol?

I am planning on creating feature-linked annotation that I would like to symbolize with a marker symbol. It would be helpful if I could also have a leader line as part of the symbol.

Mapping Center Answer:

The only way to do this (because a leader line cannot be used with marker sybmols) is to use a character marker symbol when you label the features.  Then you can specify that you want to use the leader line option when labeling.  Once you find the font that has the characters in it that you want to use as symbols, then you need to find the character in the font that corresponds with that symbol.  Then you can create a new text field in your feature class and populate it with the characters that correspond to the symbols in the font.

If you think this will work for you, I can send mopre detailed instructions.
