Labeling lines

I have a line theme that represents a level curve. I need to place some labels from the attribute table with the heights, but I need not one label per feature, rather I need to locate several labels for the same line at certain distances. How can I do that?

Mapping Center Answer:

If you have Maplex available, it's easy to place multiple labels for a single line feature.  If you open up the Placement Properties menu in the Maplex Label Manager and check the "Repeat label" box, you can then specify an interval between labels (in map units, millimeters, inches, or points).  Look at the online help article "Repeating labels along lines" for more information.

If you don't have access to Maplex, one workaround using the Standard Label engine is to use the "Place one label per feature" option in the Label Placement Properties menu, but this will require that you split up your line feature into as many segments as you want labels.
