How do you change the Label Line Callout Leader Symbol Style to extend from the bottom or top? All the choices extend from either the left or right.

Mapping Center Answer:

The preview section of the Text Symbol properties dialog cannot be customized to show alternate connection points for the callouts.  The easiest way to test the possibilities for how your callouts will look is to create one in layout view (the Draw toolbar has a callout text tool--that you can get to from the "New Text" tool menu), and then drag the text in different directions.  For the Line Callouts, the few I tested did not support connections to the top or bottom of the text, but, the Simple Line Callouts did.

I think I am understanding your question correctly, that the leader will only come off the text element at the east and west positions and not the north south. This is something that I've been trying to figure out for a while and just stumbled across one way to change this.
Once you have selected Change Symbol>Edit Symbol then click on the Advanced Text tab. Then click Properties under the Text Background check box. Here change the Type to 'Simple Line Callout' instead of 'Line Callout'. This will give you 8 attachment points for the leader line as you move it around the leader anchor. I couldn't tell you why the 'Line Callout' does not have this capability. (but it probably a feature, and not a bug ;)
