Transparent Globe

I am creating a map that has an inset globe image. When it is displayed in layout view, the globe is transparent. When I export the final map to a PDF or JPG (these are the only 2 I have tried), the boundaries of the frame become white. How do I fix that?

This is a known issue. Check out these two Knowledge Base articles -- they should be able to help you:

Maps exported to PNG and/or GIF do not have a transparent background or the background is the same color as the Windows background

Exported map has a gray background instead of being transparent
