moving fields

9.3.1 - I can move a field (column) within my personnel database, but I can't get it to stay in the new position. Am I doing something wrong or is it not designed to stay where I put it?
Mapping Center Answer:
You can right click the field name in the attribute table and click the "Freeze/Unfreeze" option. This will freeze your field to the left-most position. However, the field will return to the default position if you remove the feature class and re-add it to yur map document.
