Hello

I was wondering if it is possible to add security to layer symbology files in ArcGIS 10? Is it now possible to store LYR files in the Geodatabase? What options are available?

Thanks

Mapping Center Answer:

With ArcGIS 10, there are a number of security option you can set, but not specifically for a layer -- rather you would set them for the map or the map package. For example, you can password protect a map, you can publish a map that will time out, and you can restrict others from creating a map package from your map. Here is the online help topic for the subject, Security settings. As I mentioned, this is not for layer-level security, however.

Also, you cannot save a layer file into a geodatabase.
