Symbolize data with domain defined in Geodatabase

I have a calveg dataset that has numerous potential values defined by a domain in the geodatabase. I clipped the dataset to a smaller area that contained just a handful of those potential values. When I symbolized the data using the field with the domain, it symbolizes all the potential values. I just want to symbolize the values in the data. The "count" column in the symbology tab of the properties dialog won't populate with geodatabase data with a domain assigned to the symbolized field, so I can't use that to help filter out the unused values. How do I limit the number of symbolized values to the what exists in the data, irrespective of existing domain values?

Mapping Center Answer:

There are a couple of things you can do. One you can click on the Count field in the Symbology tab and then select each row with a count of 0 (zero) and delete that row by clicking the Remove button.

You could also just take the domain off of the field in the excerpt of your data. Using the domain is just an expedient ArcMap uses when a domain exists.
