Creating a hillshade without a DEM

Can a hillshade be created without a DEM? Can I do it with just the contours? Do I need a special extension like 3d? I have the bare earth LiDAR and the contours available.
Mapping Center Answer:
Yes, you can do this, but you will need the 3D Analyst extension. First, create a TIN from the contours uisng the Create TIN tool and then create a grid from the TIN using the TIN to Raster tool.
