Basemap vs. Base Map

I have a very simple grammar question regarding the use of "Base Map" versus "Basemap". The Oxford English Dictionary has a definition for "Base Map" but not "Basemap". However, I'm starting to see "Basemap" used more and more on the web. So - as words tend to do - it seems like "Base Map" is naturally evolving to "Basemap", and I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the word usage.

Mapping Center Answer:

We have adopted the usage of "basemap" here on Mapping Center (and more broadly at Esri), although we had to add it to our MicroSoft Word dictionaries in order to stop it from being highlighted as a spelling error. :-)

I will now consider this my source for the proper use of "basemap" in all of my documentation! :) Please do not delete! :)
