I have a grid with a hillshade with 40% transparency laid over it. I'd like to have the color ramp in the legend to look the same way as the colors are displayed on the map. How is this done?

Thanks.

We have instructions for how to do this in a blog entry here on Mapping Center titled Creating an elevation legend. You might also want to see the related blog entry Labeling an elevation tint legend. We also outline a second method for making such a legend in the blog entry titled Creating a legend for hypsometrically tinted shaded relief.
