Registering layer files in ArcMap for use in Adobe Illustrator

Hi,

I need to export data files from ArcMap into Adobe Illustrator for map production. It is suggested that the files be referenced allowing for various layers to be interchanged according to specific maps being requested. I'm told that this can be done in ArcPlot however I don't use ArcPlot. Is there a function in ArcMap to set reference points on the layer files to be compatible with lllustrator.

Thank you.

Mapping Center Answer:

You can export data to Adobe Illustrator (.AI) format straight from ArcMap.  The ArcMap AI format preserves most layers.  See the ExporttoAI ArcGIS Resource Center help topic for further details.
