Do not display aliases and coded values in table of contents symbology

I have a feature class with field aliases, domains and coded values (v.10). I realize that under the table options I can select whether or not to display the aliases. I also realize that under the ArcMap options I can choose whether or not to display the coded value domains and subtype descriptions. However, when I set these options to not show field aliases and to not display coded values, the table of contents and symbology options for unique values still display the aliases and coded values. How can I change this to show the actual field names and the actual field values in the table of contents and symbology options?

Mapping Center Answer:

The Options you refer to only apply to fields and values displayed in Tables, they do not apply to any other field list, dialog or dockable window.

Table Options > Show Field Aliases
Table Options > Appearance > Display coded values for domains and subtypes
ArcMap Options > Tables tab > Display coded values for domains and subtypes

If you change these options from the Table Options menu or Appearance dialog, they will dynamically update the table, you do not need to close and reopen the table.  Currently the changes cannot be reflected elsewhere.
