How do I use USGS DEMs to make a 3D terrain model

I am trying to use the least cost path function to find the shortest path from one point to the other and I am using USGS dem data. First I have to make a 3D visualization of the data then show the shortest path or the list cost path but I do not know where to begin. I have ArcGIS 10.
Mapping Center Answer:
To create a 3D visualisation you should use ArcScene. You can set the base heights using one copy of the DEM then drape a second copy over it to create the visualisation.
