Figuring Mileage

I am trying to figure the miles in a county as well as in each commissioners district. Can you instruct me on how that is done in 9.3.2?

Mapping Center Answer:

You can calculate the geometry of features in a number of ways depending on precisely what you want to do.

The ArcGIS Resource Center help topic Calculate area, length and other geometric properties will get you started if you want to calculate values in a field for your feature class.

If you want to sum the length of a road line feature class, for instance, you would first calculate the length as above then either select all roads in a county and sum them using the right-click on field and choose statistics or use the Summarize option to sum by county for more than one county.
