Is there a way to export point data from a dot density map? I seem to recall somebody wrote an Avenue script for ArcView 3.x, but I haven't been able to find something similar for ArcGIS.

Thanks

Mapping Center Answer:

At version 9.2 there's no easy way to that.  You could export the map to a graphics format and then isolate the dots in the graphics software and export them as a DXF file (we wrote this up a while back in another Ask Question).

Coming soon in version 9.3, there will be a geoprocessing function that will generate random points, and could be used to create data of the sort your asking for by using a geoprocessing model.  Also in 9.3 we made some improvements to importing graphics and converting them to features, so, unfortunately the best answers are not quite available yet.
