3D Townhouses in Arc Scene

Hello -

I am currently working on a 3D project in ArcScene for our Condominium Department. The project involves displaying individual units by floor, which we currently have separated into different layers for each floor, then stack and then extrude to the correct height to create the 3D image.

The dilemma I have is in some units that are two stories tall but I want to show them as one unit, what would be the best practice to show an individual two story unit in 3D using this or other schema?

Mapping Center Answer:

The answer is to extrude by an attribute.

So, one-floor apartment polygons have an attribute set to ‘1’, and two-story units have an attribute set to ‘2’, and then extrusion is set to (for example) “10*[attr_name]”. The single story polygons will be 10 feet tall, and the 2-story polygons will be 20 feet tall. Both would be displayed as a “one unit” block.

You could even go as far as having an attribute for the full height (eg: ‘10’, ‘20’, ‘18.3’) and extrude their separate polygons more precisely.
