I am working on a project where we need to create symbols for use on maps that will be displayed at different resolutions. I am mostly familiar with Illustrator and Photoshop for graphics work. Is there a process for creating vector graphics (Illustrator) then importing them into ArcGIS 9.2?

Mapping Center Answer:

If you want to make symbols to use in ArcMap in Illustrator, you can export them to .EMF files and import those as picture marker symbols in ArcMap (find the next to last task in the hyperlinked help document.

As for the multi-scale aspect of this, the only feature that you need is the min/max scale on the Layer Properties window’s General tab. If you use group layers you can set the min/max scale for the entire group at the group layer level, which will override the individual layer’s settings (or allow you not to have to bother with them).
