How do I get point symbols from Illustrator into a respresentation?

BMP is not acceptable because it is raster and EMF gets whacked out in the process. Is drawing each symbol over again in the marker editor my only choice?

Mapping Center Answer:

The method we use is to create a TrueType font as an intermediary.  That means we copy the Illustrator artwork, and paste into a font editor (no need to spend $$$ on a fancy font editor--as you're not going to have to make the font work flawless in ArcGIS). Then you can create Character Marker symbols in a style.  Then this blog entry explains the rest:

Granted it's multi-stage, but like you, we didn't like what happened when going the route of BMP and EMF.
